North Broward Hospital District awards medical glove contract to Pompano business

The North Broward Hospital District has chosen a Pompano Beach firm as the sole supplier of medical exam gloves. Medgluv Inc. won the $455,685 contract over eight other potential suppliers available through Premier, a network that arranges supplies for hundreds of the nation’s nonprofit hospitals. The District will save nearly $150,000 by using the local business.

The North Broward Hospital District contract is the largest to date for the manufacturer of disposable examination gloves. Medgluv was added in November 2002 to Premier’s pool of suppliers of medical equipment and supplies.

In keeping with its Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise initiative, the North Broward Hospital District actively seeks small, local minority- and women-owned businesses to provide goods and services. Medgluv is a minority-owned business based in Pompano Beach. The distributor, which will handle delivery of the gloves, also is a minority-owned business.

Medgluv was awarded the 18-month contract when the District’s business arrangement with its previous non-sterile glove supplier expired, said Andrew Simon, GPO coordinator for purchasing at North Broward Hospital District.

“They were the lowest price provider and clinicians preferred their product,” Simon said. “We will be spending nearly $150,000 less for the same amount of product.”

In addition, the move to Medgluv supports a local business enterprise contributing to the financial welfare of communities served by the District.

“The District is constantly looking for ways to give back to the community,” said Wil Trower, President/CEO of the North Broward Hospital District. “We feel it is important to use the goods and services, whenever possible, that enrich the economic health of Broward County and South Florida.”

The North Broward Hospital District, providing service since 1938, is a nonprofit community health system offering a full spectrum of healthcare services. The District includes more than 40 healthcare facilities, including Broward General Medical Center, North Broward Medical Center, Coral Springs Medical Center, Imperial Point Medical Center and the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital at Broward General Medical Center. The District is a medical safety net for Broward County residents.
